Week 26
Your Pregnancy At Week 26
Overview
Congratulations -- you're on week 26!
Physical Changes

You'll be putting on weight at the rate of about 1 pound per week now. You may be feeling some rib pain as your baby grows and pushes upward on your rib cage. The pressure may also be causing indigestion and heartburn. You may even be feeling stitch-like pains down the sides of your abdomen as your uterine muscle stretches.

Emotional Feelings

The baby's constant movements should be reassuring. This is a good time to start kick counts. Make sure that you feel your baby move 10 times in a two hour window of time at least once a day. If you haven’t felt your baby move in awhile, have a snack, drink some juice and lay on your side. See how long it takes for the baby to move 10 times. If your baby still isn’t moving much or at all, call your doctor or midwife.

About Baby

Your baby measures about 9 inches and weighs almost 2 pounds now. Its hearing is fully developed and reacts to sounds.  Lungs are still growing, but are not yet mature. Patterns of your baby's brain waves appear like a full-term newborn and has patterns of sleeping and waking.

Things To Consider
It’s time to think about your childbirth options. Many women decide to write a birth plan with their preferences. Try to keep it to one page.
