Week 38
Your Pregnancy At Week 38
Overview
Congratulations -- you're on week 38!
Physical Changes

Your uterus will stay the same size now. Your provider may want to do a vaginal exam at this visit to see if you are dilated. You may notice a lot of swelling in your hands and feet which is fairly normal. However, if you start seeing swelling in your face and/or are seeing floating spots in your vision, let them know. These are symptoms of preeclampsia.

Emotional Feelings

Coming to the end of an event such as pregnancy leads to lots of different emotions. Remember this is just a season in your life. Try to start letting go of fear and control. Enjoy the time you have before the baby comes. Write a letter to your baby about your feelings and events of the pregnancy. They love to read about it when they are older. Go out on a date with your partner.

About Baby

Your baby will probably gain a little in length now, but will gain weight and fat steadily. It would be safe and your baby would do fine if you went into labor now.

Things To Consider
Vaginal exams, like all exams, are a choice. Unless you stand to gain valuable information that only a vaginal exam can give you, try to be patient. You could be 3 cm and still not deliver for two more weeks or completely closed and go into labor that night. Why open a door for infection if it is not necessary?
