Week 39
Your Pregnancy At Week 39
Overview
Congratulations -- you're on week 39!
Physical Changes

You should be able to breathe a little better as your baby drops down into your pelvis. If this is not your first baby, it is very common for your baby to drop in and out of your pelvis.

Emotional Feelings

A watched pot never boils! As hard as it is to not obsess about when the baby will come, try to relax. The more stressed you are the more your body sets off catecholamines. A hormone that will actually keep you from going into labor.

About Baby

Your baby is about 21.5 inches long from head to toe and weighs a little more than 7 pounds. Toenails and fingernails have grown to tips of toes and fingers. Muscles of your baby's arms and legs are strong, and he's practicing lung movements.

Things To Consider
Labor signs are water breaking, regular crampy contractions and bloody show. Crampy contractions that are coming regularly are the true indicator of labor. If your water breaks first, make sure to look at the color. Your provider will want to know what time it broke and what color it is. If you are not having contractions you may want to wait to go straight to the hospital until you start having regular contractions. Especially if you are wanting a more natural birth. Hopefully you have discussed this with your provider at a prior time and worked out a reasonable time frame to come in that you both feel comfortable with. If you do stay home, take your temperature when your water breaks and every few hours after that to make sure you don’t have a fever. Also, if you are GBS positive you will need to get to the hospital sooner to get the antibiotics (if you choose to have them) make sure that your provider knows your GBS status and work out an agreeable timeline.
